Why focus on the breath? For when you are focusing on the air coming into the body and going out you are not focusing on the events around you coming into awareness that do not go out. How often does the human mind obsess about things beyond your control! It turns to the past. It runs to the future. Breathing is being done for you, but when you focus upon it, the mind is no longer running amok, if only for a few minutes, which is approximately the length of time most humans can hold awareness on the breath. But oh, the value in those few minutes! Try it, why don’t you, and experience for yourself the peace that comes when you are here, now, instead of there, then.
