There is not a one of you who has not suffered some emotional trauma. It matters not how far back you go, the wounds are very real. What is healing? When the wounds no longer cause lasting pain. Yes, scars may be present. They may remind you of how you suffered, but there is quite a difference between pain and suffering. Healing of emotional wounding takes place when you accept the reality of what happened, you understand the cause—which in most cases also arose from pain, and you find forgiveness through this understanding and compassion. The pain may arise as you relive the wounding, but with the understanding and compassion, suffering is replaced by healing.
