How long has it been since we have reminded you of that most useful of phrases: “Isn’t that interesting!”? This is our prescription for the day: Use this phrase as needed. It will bring a smile to the lips and peace to the heart as you pause long enough to use it. In doing so, you have stepped away from the drama just enough to gain perspective. In using it, you have acknowledged that you have a choice in how to view things. In doing so, you have stepped into a state of neutrality. There. Does that not feel better than instantly deciding something is “awful, terrible, a disaster, a tragedy, and the worst thing that could have possibly happened”? Isn’t that interesting how the human labels things and instantly reacts to these labels with emotions and a cascade of thoughts. “Isn’t that interesting” has one reaction … awareness that something has occurred. Now that you have stepped back and paused long enough to be the observer, you are back in control. But remember our message of yesterday . Control is a nebulous thing. Isn’t that interesting, your desire for control? May our phrase of the day prove useful today and each now-moment that follows in this ongoing, interesting experience you call life.
Yesterday and last night were a series of unfortunate events. From a harrowing and hugely delayed plane ride, to land in Austin only to discover our condo is uninhabitable and our contractor has been lying to us. When i learned of this and that we’d have to stay in a hotel for a few nights i was quite frustrated at first, and then the words came to me, “isn’t that interesting?!?!” And i began to chuckle.
Then as i realized the contractor situation was even worse than i had thought, once again i heard “isn’t that interesting??”
And i laugh a bit each time i say it and tell the contractor I’ve been through worse. It’ll all work out.
Isn’t that interesting!!!
Xo thank you, Suzanne
