What do you see when you look outside of you? Do you see beauty or blemishes? Of course, both are present, but even in the midst of near-perfection, the brain will draw you to the flaw. Be aware of this built in tendency. This awareness is the remedy. Yes, pay attention to what stands out, but you need not give it a shout0out. Acknowledge what appears to be wrong, and shift attention to what feels right. Now you can receive greater insight, all thanks to awareness.
You are so very loved.
Beautiful and so true! Good to be reminded!
Thank you, I needed this reminder. No better way to spoil a beautiful moment than by saying ‘yes it’s wonderful…but’. How often haven’t I done that. But I am getting better all the time at not saying the ‘but’ and at times even not to think it. ♡
Cracked me up…That was funny “but”…
Glad you enjoyed the unintended pun. I just felt grateful to Suzanne for the message and what it made me understand.
Thank you dear Suzanne.
This came exactly what I needed and just before I read it, I was aware of my involvement in a drama for my empathy of a friend who is going through a very hard time through accusations. In my mind I ” told” my creator why I did this and that I don’t want to judge. I will be even more aware today to go on with my life and pray for my friend that she will find her peace.
So thank you.
There is a great quote I read today by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German Theologian and Pastor (who was executed in 1945 by the Nazi regime) :
” In normal life we hardly realize how much we receive than we give, and life cannot be rich without such gratitude.”
It’s sometimes BECAUSE OF the near perfection that we are seeing the flaw. The flaw seems so out of place. We think we like the appearance of perfection, even though we don’t even recognize the uncounted perfections around and within is. Still, the draw gives us the impetus to get involved… without jealousy of perfection, without desperation or pretence of perfection, etc., but simply because we DID recognize it. Life doesn’t need vain perfections in the making… Life IS perfection …flaws and all.
I love that you wrote shout0out. It already draws my memory to being more aware of what social psychologists call the Fundamental Attribution Error. Thanks!
You made me smile… you noticed. (I hadn’t) Good for both of us in our own way. Thanks!
“Fundamental Attribution Error”… goodnight nurse!!! I wonder who ever thought we really needed that terminology. “Cool” works – right?
